Where to Stay for a Byron Bay Luxury Beachfront Getaway

Set on one of Australia’s most iconic stretches of coastline, a Byron Bay luxury beachfront escape offers the perfect blend of laid-back coastal charm and refined indulgence. In this guide, discover a standout resort where ocean views and low-key luxury set the tone for your stay. Beyond the resort, Byron Bay’s vibrant dining scene and diverse activities ensures there is just as much to explore as there is to unwind.

Why Visit Byron Bay?

On the far northeastern coast of New South Wales, Byron Bay sits as Australia’s easternmost point. The iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse watches over golden beaches and the Pacific Ocean. Once a laid-back hippy and surfing mecca, Byron was known for its bohemian spirit, alternative lifestyle and barefoot charm. In recent years, however, the town has evolved into a more polished, high-end destination, where luxury accommodation, acclaimed restaurants and boutique shopping now sit alongside its original surf culture.

There is more to Byron Bay than just its glorious beaches. The lush Byron Bay hinterland also offers subtropical rainforests, walking trails, waterfalls and charming villages to explore.

Where to Stay in Byron Bay

There is no getting around it, staying in Byron Bay is expensive. I have stayed in and around Byron many times over the years.

The Easter long weekend has historically been a very difficult time of the year to find accommodation in Byron Bay due to the annual Byron Bay Bluesfest, which drew huge crowds into Byron and surrounding areas for the long weekend. This year, 2026, the music festival was cancelled permanently, making it a lot easier to find accommodation, less traffic to deal with, less crowds and cheaper!

As much as I loved going to Bluesfest, with its demise, our Easter long weekend stay in Byron Bay was made a lot easier. The question of where to stay in Byron at Easter was unusually met with several options.

Camping in Byron Bay

In my younger days, camping was the way to go. There are several campground options available with excellent central locations. Reflections Holiday Park, First Sun Holiday Park and Glen Villa Resort are all within walking distance of the Byron Bay town centre.

Camping is a great budget option, but if you’re after something a little more up-market, then our most recent stay in Byron Bay is the perfect choice!

Elements of Byron – Bryon Bay Luxury Beachfront Resort

If you’re looking for low-key beachfront luxury, suitable for couples, families or like us – large family gatherings, then Elements of Byron ticks all the boxes. Set amongst sprawling tropically landscaped grounds are over 200 stand-alone 1 & 2-bedroom villas, which offers both privacy and tranquility. For larger groups, it is easy to book villas next to each other so you have the benefit of your own space but can easily come together for a few beverages if you want to.

The 2-bedroom villa we stayed in was fully self-contained with a kitchen equipped with microwave, cooktop, fridge and the usual appliances. It also had a washer and drier, 2 ensuite bathrooms, large lounge and a fully screened deck to keep out the mozzies.

Golf buggies are on hand at reception, to chauffeur guests to and from their villas if needed…. or just for fun!

What makes this resort great for large gatherings are the facilities, there is something here to suit every taste.

Elements of Byron – Facilities

Another benefit of staying at a resort is the facilities on offer. At Elements of Byron, you are spoiled for choice.

Swimming Pools

There are 2 pools, the huge lagoon pool perfect for families, and the adult’s only pool with a swim-up bar! Perfect for me!

Both pools had plenty of shaded beds as well as my favourite, cool cabanas, to settle into with a good book and maybe a mojito?

Dining

There are several dining options at Elements of Byron if you don’t want to cook or head offsite. Azure Bar and Grill is the main restaurant, but there is also Breeze Cafe adjacent to the main Lagoon Pool, serving up a typical bar menu of snacks, pizzas and salads.

The Summer Salt Bar is located at the adults’ pool and offers a Mediterranean menu.

Beach Lounges and Direct Beach Access

Byron Bay is all about the beaches! Apart from the main patrolled beach, you are spoiled for choice with Clarkes Beach (great for families), The Pass (for the surfers), Wategos Beach (iconic), Tallow Beach (south of the lighthouse) and Belongil Beach – north of Main Beach and usually directly accessible from Elements of Byron resort.

I say usually, because at the time of our visit, direct access to Belongil beach was restricted due to sandbagging in an attempt to limit erosion from Belongil Creek. Having said that, if you’re comfortable climbing over large, sometimes slippery sandbags, you can still directly access the beach. Otherwise, the resort adjoins the public beach access point and is an easy stroll over a grassy hill to get to the sand.

Along the beachfront, Elements has beach lounges set up, with a conveniently located vintage caravan drinks bar. Enjoy the beautiful views on a comfy chair, drink in hand and grazing platter to nibble on. If I must!

This is the perfect spot to be one of the first people in Australia to catch the sunrise!

Eco-Trails

The resort has over 2 kms of eco-trails to explore if you feel like stretching the legs a little. There is an incredible amount of birdlife that inhabit this area. I liked the signage along the way, helping you to identify native flora and fauna that you may see around you.

Tennis Court and Outdoor Games

I prefer to read a book on the beach, but some people like to get active on their holidays. For those weird people, they can take advantage of the tennis court or the outdoor fitness circuit.

Outdoor games on offer include giant chess and bocce.

Indoor Gym & In House Spa

Surely you don’t even have to ask which of these facilities I was drawn to?? The indoor 24-hour gym, I would happily leave to those persons feeling a little guilty about the large quantity of Cadbury’s Easter eggs they have consumed.

I feel no guilt, so the spa is where you would find me…. if I was staying for longer that is. The in-house Osprey Spa offers different spa treatments and therapies to relax and pamper, but I didn’t have time to indulge.

I was staying there for a family members significant birthday, and I had siblings from interstate to catch up with and a beautiful birthday celebration to attend – no time for massages and facials!

Elements of Byron – Activities

There are a number of free in-house activities on offer including daily 7am yoga sessions, guided rainforest walks, as well as a children’s fairy trail. A few of my nieces were kept busy following the clues around the resort grounds to find the fairy treasures.

Activity boards in the resort reception display activities available in-house or nearby, as well as the special Easter activities on offer over the long weekend.

On Friday afternoons, the firepit in front of the lagoon pool comes to life, with live music to unwind to.

Private Functions

I mentioned that we were staying at Elements of Byron for a family member’s significant birthday party. I wanted to mention briefly how well we were looked after by the staff during the event; how private the space was and also how delicious the food was. It was not a huge event, but a special sit-down dinner for approximately 25 people and it was just lovely.

I didn’t organize the event, so don’t have a lot of details about cost or how Elements were to deal with while organizing it, but as a guest, I was very impressed.

Of course, there are many other places to choose from in Byron Bay to stay at. My previous visits to Byron were some time ago, so I can’t give a recent review on those places…. some of them I can’t even remember the name of! But I encourage you to have a look around and do your research.

Things to do in Byron Bay

Elements of Byron is just north of the town centre, on Belongil Beach, so it’s a bit of a hike into town. Of course, it’s a short drive into town but parking can be problematic. Solution is to catch the Byron solar train from the solar train station, just outside the resort gates. It’s just a short, $7 each way electric train ride, to access lots of activities in the main town.

Cape Byron Lighthouse Walk

The Cape Byron Lighthouse walk is a relatively easy and well-marked walking loop that winds along clifftops, rainforest pockets, and offers sweeping coastal views. Along the way you’ll find lookouts for spotting dolphins, turtles or whales at the right time of year. At the summit sits the iconic Byron Bay Lighthouse. From this vantage point, it makes the perfect spot to see the sunrise – you’ll be one of the first people in Australia to see it!

Surfing

Byron Bay is one of the most iconic places in Australia to catch a wave. It’s long sandy beaches with consistent swell also makes it the ideal place for beginners to learn how to surf. There are many learn to surf activities on offer to choose from.

Adrenaline Rush Activities

For those that like to ramp up the adrenaline rush, Byron has plenty of activities that get the heart rate up from snorkeling, kayaking, whale watching to Sky diving! Check out these popular activities on offer.

Shopping

Byron Bay has a vibe when it comes to fashion. It reflects the crossover of the old bohemian, alternative lifestyle with the new high-end fashion. Think Boho but make it luxe! Lots of time can be spent browsing the boutique shops but be careful not to wear out the credit card!

More Beaches

Remember all those beaches I told you about earlier …. Main Beach, Wategos, Clarkes, The Pass and Tallow? Make sure to spend some time dipping your toes in each one. I believe there may be an unofficial beach where naturists tend to gather just North of Byron, if getting your kit off is your thing. It’s not really mine, so can’t tell you much about it, as I’ve never been. At the time of our visit in April, the water temperature was perfect, so if you do nothing else, get down to the sand!

Top Dining Recommendations in Byron Bay

Byron Bay is getting a bit of a reputation as a foodie haven. With so many acclaimed restaurants to choose from, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Below is a short list of some places myself and my friends have dined at and enjoyed for different reasons.

1. Raes on Wategos – perched above the gorgeous Wategos Beach, Raes on Wategos is one of Byron Bay’s most iconic luxury escapes. The real highlight is the celebrated restaurant, where guests can experience refined yet relaxed dining, with views to die for. If you like what you see and want to linger longer, Raes on Wategos also offers luxury boutique accommodation ….. Remember, I said Byron Bay is expensive!
2. The Farm – Set on a working farm just outside Byron Bay, The Farm offers a relaxed paddock to plate dining experience. The restaurant, Three Blue Ducks, offers seasonal menus highlighting locally grown produce. Dining here is casual and welcoming, great for the kids to explore the grounds and visit the animals. Also, you may be lucky enough to spot a Hemsworth there…. he’s a Byron local.
3. Beach Hotel – the iconic Byron Bay pub that overlooks the Main Beach. Perfect place for people watching and a bite to eat with a cold beverage.
4. Moonlight – Great Japanese food that never disappoints. An interesting menu (eg. watermelon sushi!) and an upbeat bustling vibe.
5. Bar Heather – Cool old school wine bar feel, delicious food with interesting new twists on dishes and a high energy vibe.
6. Light Years – An impressive Asian fusion menu. Expansive restaurant space with beautiful decor. Great at accommodating kids while maintaining a cool atmosphere that couples can appreciate.
7. Kouzina – Hearty and traditional Greek food that makes you feel like you’re in Greece! BYO drinks and a set menu where there’s no decision making about what to order. Great vibes in the evening with lit candles everywhere setting the mood.

If you have access to a car, then there a few things I highly recommend you do during your stay in Byron Bay.

Explore Cute Rural Towns

Just inland from Byron Bay are cute towns and villages to explore, my favourite being Bangalow. Stroll down its charming 19th-century main street, full of boutique shops and gorgeous cafes. On the 4th Sunday of each month, the Bangalow markets are held, featuring fresh local produce, crafts and music.

Explore Nearby National Parks

Nightcap National Park

For an easy walk with a rewarding waterfall to view, head to Nightcap National Park. The drive out to Minyon Falls, in the National Park, takes you through gorgeous State Forest. There is a grassed picnic area for a little R & R before taking the short stroll to the waterfall lookout.

If you have a bit more time on your hands than we did, there is a 9km, grade 3 walking track that takes you to the base of the falls. We were so impressed with the 100 metre Minyon Falls, that we intend to return, just to do that walk to the base.

Wallumbin – Mount Warning

For those people wanting a hike a little more challenging, then Mount Warning (Wallumbin) should be on your future itinerary. I say future itinerary, because the climb to the summit is currently closed, but due to reopen in July 2027.

Much like Uluru, the area has deep cultural significance to the Aboriginal custodians of the land. The summit has been closed to the public to try and protect the site and also as a safety precaution. The last section of the climb required the aid of a chain to access the summit. This section of the track is undergoing restoration work. We climbed Mount Warning a few years ago, before the summit was closed. The view from the top was breathtaking…. not sure if my old legs would make it these days!

The lower sections of the walking tracks remain open though, so it still worth the trip to stretch the legs!

Byron Bay is the perfect place to stay for a taste of Aussie surf culture, gorgeous beaches, fabulous food and shopping, and a wonderful hinterland to explore. I’m sure you will enjoy your time there as much as we do.
