You’ve probably heard of FOMO – the Fear Of Missing Out. Well, JOMO travel is the opposite. JOMO travel is the Joy Of Missing Out travel! I have put together a detailed list of my top 10 Australian JOMO travel destinations for you to access when you subscribe.
Let me explain what the JOMO travel trend is.
First, what is FOMO travel?
FOMO travelers have a jam-packed itinerary, where they are up at the crack of dawn, with a fully scheduled day. The aim is to tick off as many must-see and must-do items from their carefully researched and extensive list. At the end of a long day, they fall exhausted into bed early, as they have to be up early in the morning to do it all again!

I have to admit, a lot of the time I am a FOMO traveler. I am from Australia, so if I am heading all the way to the Northern Hemisphere, I want to squeeze in as much as I can. It’s a long way to travel anywhere from Australia and I want to make the most of it!
What then is the JOMO travel trend?
As I mentioned earlier, JOMO is the Joy of Missing Out. It’s the sheer joy of not doing much of anything on a holiday. The joy of missing out on queuing to see the inside of a cathedral, the joy of missing out on walking over 10 000 steps each day, the joy of no set itinerary, no list of must-sees and must-dos ….. the joy of just relaxing!
A JOMO traveler seeks a respite from the hectic pace of life, they seek the chance to slow down, switch off and unplug, and do not much of anything except chill.

What is an Ideal JOMO travel destination?
An ideal JOMO destination would be a beach or island holiday where your days would be filled with swimming, reading, walks on the beach, eating local food and experiencing local culture.

Perhaps a vineyard with a gourmet chef to prepare delicious meals paired with complementary wines? Your days would be filled with visiting cellar doors, picnic lunches or perhaps a hot air balloon ride over the vines as the sun rises?

Camping without having to set up tents and inflate air mattresses, would be heading in the right direction for a JOMO holiday.
I think you are starting to get the idea.
Benefits of the JOMO travel trend
In a world where we are increasingly under pressure at work, suffering financial stress as well as being worried about the state of our planet and its future ….. life has become very stressful!
Increasingly, travelers crave a chance to switch off from it all, a chance to completely relax.
I don’t know about you, but one thing I get frustrated with on my FOMO travels is the constant barrage of Instagram influencers trying to get the perfect shot. One of the bonus benefits of JOMO travel is the very noticeable lack of influencers and people on their phones in general. It’s all about getting off the devices and I’m here for it!
Whilst I tend to pack a lot into my travel itinerary when I am heading overseas, when I holiday at home, I am definitely a JOMO traveler!

Australia is the perfect destination for a JOMO holiday. We have the best beaches, warm balmy weather most of the year (head to the Whitsundays and it is all year round!), amazing wineries and vineyards, and a very laid-back attitude in general – we are the leaders in doing not much of anything! 😁

Love this idea! Do any of your suggestions have limited mobile coverage?
Oooh, good question! There are a couple where coverage is patchy, but how lovely would it be if they were all like that!?!
This suits me down to the ground. Thank you. Looking forward to reading your Top 10 JOMO’s in Oz.
